Pace-Scan is a utility for handicappers who wish to build their own "Racing Form On A Disk" using computer databases.
The easiest way to acquire thoroughbred information is to input results charts information into your computer, just like the Daily Racing Form does. Unfortunately, this is very time consuming. Entering a complete day's charts by hand is a full-time job. BRIS subscribers, however, can download "Fast Charts" in the form of text files. At $1.00 per day, downloading charts as text files provide a far better value than the so-called "optical scanners" that are now appearing.
Pace-Scan will reliably transform these charts into a comma-delimited file that can be imported into virtually any commercial database program: dBase, RBASE, Paradox, Lotus 123, etc. A typical chart can be analyzed and transformed into a database file in about two minutes. (If you have ever tried optically scanning a printed Chart, you know that you will spend far more time than that!) An experienced user can do an entire day's races in about 5 minutes. Virtually all handicapping information from the Chart is saved, including the fractional times and fractional lengths. If you find an optical scanner that out-performs Pace-Scan, we ll refund your cost!
Pace-Scan is available in two versions: Charts and Past Performanace. The Charts version writes the data in "lengths-ahead" notation, as found in the Chart. The Past Performance version converts all "lengths" to "beaten lengths" for you.
