The Pace-Scan family of programs takes its name from their ability to scan a downloadable text file, and to produce a data file that may be imported into database programs or spreadsheets. This ability is one that optical scanners have promised for years, but have yet to deliver on. These programs are intended solely for database programmers who wish to build their own independent databases, using commercially available database tools. The Pace-Scan family of programs produce output in a comma-delimited format, and are not usable by the handicapping programs, such as Plus V. The original Pace-Scan program has been in use all across the country since 1988, by handicappers, par-time or variant vendors, and independent researchers.
