Welcome to the inaugural issue of our Priority Email List!
Volume 1 Issue 1 12/8/95
Plus V Enhanced Version 1.0.02 is now available from the ftp site.
The patch file is named P5V10002.ZIP. When you unzip this file, in
addition to the patch, a text file called P5PATCH.TXT is produced.
This text file will list the files that need to be patched. This
information may be useful for those few of you experiencing problems
installing our patches.
A full 1.02 installable version of the program is in PLUS5.ZIP. If
you experience problems installing the patch, download this file.
Neither ZIP requires a password.
(Former Beta Testers, please note: If you experience a problem
installing the patch, it may be because your last BETA is out of sync
with the production release. If you fall into this category, then
you may want to download PLUS5.ZIP which will get you back in sync.)
This update fixes a few cosmetic problems in reports, as well as a
handicapping problem, that could occur when using MLSPREAD
with a setup that used the Auto Run Style factor.
ADVANCED TOOLS
Compatibility releases of Advanced Tools are generally available 30
days after the release of a major upgrade.
If you are new to Missing Link, you may be asking: "
What is a "compatibility release" ?
These are versions of existing tools, modified to work with the new
database format(s). In general, no new added features are included,
although sometimes we manage to sneak in a new feature or two.
However, they will permit you to continue working with your updated
databases. (Typically, we will then offer "feature" upgrades several
months after the initial release, which will incorporate any new
handicapping features. )
Compatibility releases will be available around the first of the
year. As usual, these upgrades will be priced at $15 + $1 S/H, per
program.
The CAPSHEET Connection
NOTE: While Capsheet is NOT a Missing Link product, we recognize that
many PlusX users also use Jim Cody's fine programs. In future
issues, this space will be devoted to any announcements that Mr. Cody
may wish to include. For specific information on CapSheet, please
contact Jim directly.
Mr. Cody has been working diligently on a Plus V-compatible version
of CapSheet. Although we have not yet seen the final result, we
predict that current PlusV/CapSheet users will be pleasantly
surprised...
ACCESS SITES
We are working on updating the Web site, which still refers to the
"Plus V Beta"... Hopefully, this will be accomplished within the next
few weeks. We also then get to update the printed and downloadable
catalogs...
The most challenging task, however, is to update the voicemail site,
which still only reflects Plus III. Hopefully. we'll get that
updated soon ...
PLUS III Report Writer I
If you use P3RW1, then you may be interested in the following
procedure, since you will not need to order an upgrade for P3RW1.
Cheers!
1) Set P3DIR=c:\PLUS5 (or wherever you have your Plus V Enhanced)
2)Run P5MAIN's Export to produce P5EXPORT.ASC.
3) Copy that to your RW1directory.
4) REName or COPY P5EXPORT.ASC to "P3RW.ASC".
a) To clarify, at this point, you should now have a valid,
Plus V exported file named P3RW.ASC file, in your Report
Writer subdir.
b) For those unfamiliar with DOS commands, if you tried to
"Rename" using REN, it may fail, because P3RW.ASC
already exists. If that happens, use COPY.
5) Run "P3RW1IMP".
6) Create a report. When you run it, you should see the race from
Plus V.
NOTE: The main program's "Import" function will not work. You will have to
use P3RW1IMP in the manner documented above.
USER TIPS
If you discover any "tips" in P5 that you would like to share with
other users, send us an email, and we will include it here, in a
future issue.
We are also considering an online-accessible "Plus V Users
Journal"... Let us know if you would be interested in such a thing.
NICE LINKS
This space reserved for World Wide Web sites that we feel may be of
use to our clients.
FEEDBACK
So..... Tell us what you thought of our "inaugural issue"( or even Plus V
Enhanced, or other programs...) Granted, we kicked this off
primarily as an Upgrade Notice, but who knows what the future may
hold?
Best regards,
